"The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I
will make a helper suitable for him...For this reason a man
will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and
they will become one flesh." Genesis 2:18,24
"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. "I tell you the truth, if
anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the
sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he
says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell
you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying,
if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your
Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." Mark 11:22-25
"Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it
lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every
reason?" "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning
the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this
reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to
his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no
longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together,
let man not separate." "Why then," they asked, "did Moses
command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and
send her away?" Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce
your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this
way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his
wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another
woman commits adultery." Matthew 19:3-9
"Another thing you do: You flood the LORD'S altar with tears.
You weep and wail because he no longer pays attention to your
offerings or accepts them with pleasure from your hands. You
ask, 'Why?' It is because the LORD is acting as the witness
between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken
faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your
marriage covenant. Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh
and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking
godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not
break faith with the wife of your youth. 'I hate divorce,' says
the LORD God of Israel, 'and I hate a man's covering himself
with violence as well as with his garment,' says the LORD
Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break
faith." Malachi 2:13-16
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and
gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the
washing with water through the word, and to present her to
himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any
other blemish, but holy and blameless...For this reason a man
will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and
the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I
am talking about Christ and the church."
Ephesians 5:25-27,31-32
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go
after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it,
he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he
calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice
with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in thee
same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner
who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not
need to repent." Luke 15:4-7
