BFS #101 - Plop, plop, Fizz, fizz; Oh, What a Relief It Is!

Memory Verse:  Psalms 55:22 - Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

IntroPlop, plop, Fizz, fizz; Oh, What a Relief It Is! (Marketing Credit: Alka Seltzer)

Hello Ladies!  Last weeks assignment was
so great, wasn’t it!  This week I thought since we all shared about our
educational background and our feeling about homeschooling, the trials
and tribulations, and how we got our start I thought we’d share about
some of the burdens we’ve felt.

    Assignment: This would be
a good week to tell about your worst struggles with a lifestyle of
homeschooling.  Tell about something you’ve struggled with and how
God’s mercies gave us the strength to get past it.  Also, share any
curriculum/homeschool methods that have been a relief to you, i.e., a
particular Teacher’s Manual or Homeschooling method that’s been easier
for your family.  Talk about how you felt when the burden was lifted
and Oh, What a Relief it is!

In the beginning of our homeschooling years, I suffered from a chronic illness. For 18 months I was in and out of the hospital for a couple of years deathly ill. I felt down because I did not think my children were getting enough of me. We did ALL of schoolwork in my bed. We moved from room to room to get housework done with me camping out in which ever room we were in. I thought we were missing out on something. I worried I would die. God showed me that my children learned something valuable those years they would not have otherwise learned. I also learned several lessons. I learned to take each day one at a time. I am not guaranteed tomorrow. Each stage of life is but a season and a vapor. Enjoy it while you are in it regardless of how good or bad things are. It won't last very long. Learn your lessons of each season so you don't have to repeat them. Draw closer to God especially when you think he isn't there or close by.

Instructions for Righteousness by Doorpost has been an invaluable tool for us to use here as a reference. We use it to explain bibically certain house rules and self discipline and why we do certain things.

    Hebrews 13:20-21 (New International Version)

     20May the God of
peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from
the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21equip
you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what
is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and
    ever. Amen.

  • BFS Assignment #100 - Oh What a Feeling!

    Memory Verse: Ephesians 4:19 KJV
Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Assignment: Take time this week to write about YOU
and your feelings of trials and triumphs with homeschooling.  Touch on
when you first heard about the concept of home schooling and whether
you tip-toed into the idea or just jumped in and never looked back.
Share your schooling as a child and how you compare it to what your
    goals are for your children.

I first heard about homeschooling after we began officially homeschooling little over 8 years ago. my husband knew he wanted the children home schooled before I did. I did not think it was possible. My parents found out about our plans to home school and harshly ridiculed me. I lacked a confidence in God, lacked self confidence too. So I chose not to home school and put my children ,the twins in public school. I enrolled them in a magnet school for academic excellence. After 2 years of trials and God talking to me ever so quietly. I started listening and praying and finally brought my children home. Midyear before Christmas I was convicted, The children did not go back. Until that time I also had repeated nightmares, actually the same one over and over again until I brought them home. One I started I jumped in and never looked back. Our first 2 years I worked full time as a Registered Nurse, which made life stressful for me and hard working the opposite schedule of my husband. So I came home full time too.
Homeschooling is more challenging now with the more children schooling. I am not turning back now.... whose afraid of hard work?
My schooling as a child was mostly private. I did attend public high school. I can't say my being in public school taught me any good life lessons. It was more diverse than private school. The major difference was the amount of children there.
My goals for my children are:

    • Love of God and His Word
    • Love of learning and the ability to research and understand anything
    • Excellent work ethic and Initiative
    • Charity and a heart to help people.
