  • Some thoughts

There are few blessings on earth greater for a believer; and yet the Lord is frequently obliged to teach us the value of this blessing by depriving us of it for a season.

I have related this circumstance, because I am aware that it is a common temptation of Satan to make us give up the reading of the Word and prayer when our enjoyment is gone; as if it were of no use to read the Scriptures when we do not enjoy them, and as if it were of no use to pray when we have no spirit of prayer; whilst the truth is, in order to enjoy the Word, we ought to continue to read it, and the way to obtain a spirit of prayer, is, to continue praying; for the less we read the word of God, the less we desire to read it, and the less we pray, the less we desire to pray.

  • Wise thoughts. I do see a trend in society to be pleasure seekers. Too often if we don't feel like we are "getting anything out of it" we stop. Some of us really do need revival to come into our devotional lives. However, some things should be habits. I don't necessarily enjoy brushing my teeth. Some nights I am so tired I think about skipping it, but I still always make myself do it because it is right. It's the same with prayer and reading the word. We need to be disciplined in it. The fruit of it will show in our lives.

  • Yes in general the more we seek pleasant and happy and fun stuff the less pleasant and happy and fun our lives end up. It is like eating all the fun foods such as candy, cookies, pop, and  coolaide because that makes me happy and then getting very sick because those foods don't build health so life is very unhappy. There is indeed a trend that way.

Prayer and studying scripture are the meat, vegetables and whole grains of and can make us stronger in the long run. Which is why strong Christians are those who seem to be happier and even healthier physically and emotionally. Then when times get tough those others who have been having"such a good time" come to the strong Christian asking for help because they don't have any real strength to fall back on.

  • so true!

  • I believe that we are entering a very healthy stage for the body of Christ and a time of refocus that was necessary for many
